
The Niger State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects following coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across Minna, the state capital, as part of intensified efforts to curb crime and illegal activities.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Tudun-Wada Division between July 4 and 5, targeting identified blackspots within the metropolis.
According to the police, 10 of the suspects were apprehended in areas including Kafintella, Sauka-Kahuta, and Building Materials Road. Items recovered from them include a long curved sickle, a digger, sticks, and a shovel.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly travelled from Yobe State to Minna to engage in illegal mining activities.
They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

In a related development, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Minna, conducted overnight raids on July 6 across several locations, including PZ area, Angwan-Kaje, Saiko, Abdusalam Quarters, Tudun-Natsira, and Paida. The operation led to the arrest of 17 additional suspects.
Among those apprehended was a wanted suspect identified as Abdulkarim Mohammed, popularly known as “Na-Kareemu,” who had reportedly evaded arrest for previous criminal offences.
The police also recovered four cutlasses, two knives, cannabis, and other illicit substances during the raids.
The Command reiterated that the operation forms part of its sustained crackdown on criminal elements across the state, assuring residents of continued efforts to ensure safety and security.
Investigations are ongoing.
