
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle along the Akure-Owo Expressway.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at Ilu-Abo, followed a distress call reporting the presence of armed men at Olaiya Block Industry, near Ilu-Abo High School.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, a patrol team from the Federal Highway Unit swiftly responded to the alert and encountered about seven masked gunmen who had reportedly invaded the premises in search of the business owner.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, leading to the death of two of the suspects, while others escaped into nearby bushes, allegedly with gunshot injuries.

Police recovered several items from the scene, including a locally fabricated pistol, live cartridges, four mobile phones, face masks, and two ATM cards believed to be linked to the suspects or their victims.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and urged residents, especially healthcare providers, to report individuals with suspicious gunshot wounds or movements.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-driven operations and appealed to the public for continued cooperation.
