A man accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle was reportedly killed by an angry mob in Balare, Ajingi Local Government Area of Kano State, in a fresh case of jungle justice.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening during the community’s weekly market, where a large number of traders and residents had gathered. Witnesses said the suspect was accused of trying to steal a motorcycle belonging to a trader at the busy market.
According to community sources, the man attempted to flee after the accusation but was chased down by members of the crowd. He was reportedly beaten before being set ablaze, dying at the scene from the attack.
Local officials said security personnel responded after receiving reports of the incident, but they were unable to bring the situation under control because of the large and aggressive crowd.

Residents noted that the area has experienced repeated incidents of motorcycle theft in recent months, a situation that has heightened tension among traders and community members. However, authorities have continued to stress that criminal suspects should be handed over to law enforcement agencies rather than subjected to mob action.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing concern over jungle justice in parts of the country, with observers calling for increased public awareness, improved policing, and strict enforcement of the law against those who take justice into their own hands.
Investigations into the incident are expected to continue as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the mob attack.
