
A fresh wave of violence has broken out in Gwomu community, located in Bikwin Ward of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, resulting in the death of at least three persons and the destruction of several villages.
According to reports from residents, the clash allegedly involving suspected herders and local inhabitants escalated on Thursday, leading to the burning of multiple settlements.
The affected communities, identified as Bobbo, Weyam, and Bakau in the Gwomu Bayan Dutse axis, were heavily impacted, with homes and properties destroyed.
The attack forced hundreds of residents to flee their homes, seeking refuge in nearby communities such as Bambuka, Dadiya, Loh, and Panya. Displaced families are currently facing severe humanitarian challenges, having lost both shelter and means of livelihood.
Residents also expressed concern over the absence of security personnel during the early stages of the violence, raising questions about delayed response and the safety of vulnerable communities in the area.
Reacting to the incident, the lawmaker representing Karim Lamido, Ardo-Kola, and Lau Federal Constituency, Hon. Audu Mohammed Lauya, condemned the attack, describing it as deeply troubling.

He extended condolences to the families of the victims and sympathized with those displaced by the crisis.
Lauya called on security agencies to act swiftly in restoring peace, apprehending those responsible, and ensuring justice is served.
He further urged the government and relevant authorities to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
Appealing for calm, the lawmaker advised community members to avoid retaliatory actions, stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Taraba State Government, security agencies, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to restore stability in the region.
The incident adds to growing concerns over recurring communal clashes in parts of the state, highlighting the urgent need for proactive security measures and conflict resolution strategies.
