The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a 67-year-old Nigerian-British grandmother for allegedly attempting to smuggle 13 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside fake plantain peels at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The suspect was arrested at the airport’s departure terminal while preparing to board a flight to London. During a routine inspection, NDLEA operatives reportedly discovered 31 wraps of cocaine carefully disguised as plantain and packed with other food items in her luggage.
The agency also announced the arrest of a Nigerian doctoral student allegedly linked to a drug trafficking syndicate after investigators traced him to Anambra State.
The arrest followed the interception of cocaine hidden inside cartons of herbal drinks intended for export to Malaysia. Several other suspects connected to the shipment were also taken into custody during the investigation.
