Eight members of Tunisia’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have reportedly returned atypical doping test results after traces of the banned substance clenbuterol were detected in their samples.
According to reports, the affected players include several who currently play for clubs in the United Kingdom. However, anti-doping officials believe the findings were most likely caused by contaminated food rather than the intentional use of performance-enhancing substances.
Clenbuterol, a drug that helps relax the airways and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), is suspected to have entered the players’ systems through meat consumed during Tunisia’s stay at their training base in Mexico.

Authorities have reportedly informed the players’ respective clubs of the test results. Despite the positive findings, no disciplinary action is expected, as investigators believe there is no evidence of deliberate doping.
The development comes after a disappointing World Cup campaign for Tunisia. The North African side suffered heavy defeats throughout the tournament, losing 5-1 to Sweden, 4-0 to Japan, and 3-1 to the Netherlands, resulting in an early exit from the competition.
