
The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a suspected child trafficking network operating within the state, leading to the arrest of six individuals and the rescue of 29 victims.
The operation, carried out in Nnewi, was a joint effort between security operatives and the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Authorities revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in child labour, street hawking, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command received a total of 35 individuals from the Ministry, including 29 rescued children and young persons, alongside the six suspects linked to their exploitation.

The suspects identified include Anyingo Glory, Nwafor Godwin, Chukwudi Ofoke, Chinenye Anyingo, Okwudili Ifeoma, and Moses Anyingo.
They are currently undergoing profiling and investigation to determine their level of involvement in the alleged crimes.
Ikenga explained that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to combat child abuse and exploitation across Anambra State. He added that authorities are working to establish the identities of the victims and facilitate their safe reunification with their families and communities.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable groups.
He warned that anyone found culpable in child exploitation would face full prosecution under the law.
He further emphasized the dangers associated with child labour and street hawking, noting that such practices expose children to trafficking, abuse, and other criminal activities.
The Police Command has urged parents, guardians, and members of the public to desist from engaging children in hazardous activities and to promptly report any cases of child abuse or trafficking to the nearest police station or through official emergency channels.
Authorities also assured residents of continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to strengthen child protection measures and ensure justice for victims.
