A human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has confirmed that the man seen in a disturbing viral video allegedly assaulting a young woman has been taken into police custody, while new details have emerged suggesting the survivor may have been a minor when the relationship began.
According to Gwamnishu, who shared updates via Instagram, preliminary investigations indicate that the young woman identified as “Chisom” was only about 15 years old when she reportedly became involved with the suspect, who claims to be her husband.
The case gained widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing a visibly injured young woman with facial bruises, allegedly caused by domestic abuse.
In the footage, the suspect was seen arguing with neighbours who confronted him over the incident.
A second video later showed the victim receiving medical attention in a hospital environment, where Gwamnishu was present while coordinating intervention efforts.
Suspect arrested, handed over to police
Gwamnishu disclosed that after initial hesitation following the victim’s plea not to arrest the man his organisation proceeded with intervention through the Lagos chapter of the Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and transferred to the Isheri Oshun Divisional Police Headquarters, where his statement was taken and he was formally detained for further investigation.
New revelations about the victim’s background
The activist also revealed disturbing family claims suggesting that Chisom was separated from her biological father at the age of seven, following the death of her mother.

A relative of the father reportedly stated that the children were taken away by maternal family members and that their whereabouts remained unknown until the viral video surfaced.
The family also claimed the father was unaware of any marriage involving his daughter.
Ongoing investigation and support efforts
Gwamnishu noted that his organisation is continuing to support the survivor, describing her as deeply traumatised and in urgent need of protection and care.
He added that coordination efforts are ongoing with his Lagos team, led by Nta Amarachi Judith, while authorities continue their investigation.
The case has sparked renewed concern over underage relationships, domestic violence, and child protection failures in Nigeria, as stakeholders await further updates from law enforcement.
AsenExpress will continue to monitor developments as the investigation progresses.
