Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has tipped England as his favourites to lift the 2026 World Cup trophy, overlooking traditional powerhouses Spain and Brazil.
England opened their campaign in style with a 4-2 win over Croatia, marking their first victory against a FIFA top-15 ranked side since beating Argentina in 2002. The result has fueled optimism around Gareth Southgate’s squad, which boasts depth across every position.
Speaking to SkySports, Iwobi said he believes the Three Lions have a strong chance this year.
“I personally believe England have a great, great chance. I mean they got so many stars in the team, so much ability. Even the ones that are not starting, anyone that comes off the bench can hurt the opposition team,” he said.

While backing England, the Fulham midfielder also acknowledged France as a major threat.
“So, I’ll say England, but I also believe in France. Of course the attacking threat that France have is scary but I’d actually hope England win it.”
France began their tournament with a 3-1 win over Senegal, while Spain thrashed Saudi Arabia 4-0 following a surprise 0-0 draw with Cape Verde.
