
Owo, Ondo State — Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have successfully foiled a kidnap attempt in Owo following a gun duel with suspected armed criminals who invaded a cleric’s residence on Sunday evening.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred at about 7:05 p.m. when a six-man armed gang stormed the home of Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, Chairman of Ojana New Area, Owo, with the intention of abducting him and his family.
The police said they received a distress call during the operation and immediately mobilized operatives from the B Division, Owo, who swiftly moved to the scene.
On arrival, the security team engaged the armed suspects in a gun battle. The exchange of fire forced the kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into nearby bushes.

“The superior tactical response and determination of the police operatives forced the criminals to retreat into the surrounding bush, abandoning their plan,” the statement noted.
The intended victim, Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, and his family members were rescued unharmed and have since been moved to a safer location for further protection.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further security threats in the area.
The incident adds to growing concerns over kidnapping attempts in parts of Ondo State, despite ongoing security interventions.
