The family of Argentina captain Lionel Messi has confirmed that his father, Jorge Messi, is receiving medical care for a health issue.
In a statement released Thursday, the family said Jorge is under medical supervision and is recovering steadily. They noted that he is progressing favorably and asked the public to avoid speculation about his condition.
The statement came hours after Messi scored his first goal against Algeria at the 2026 World Cup and was seen in tears on the pitch. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner later clarified that his emotions were not related to football.
