The Lagos State Government has intensified its HIV awareness campaign to ensure Persons With Disabilities are not left behind in the fight against the disease.
Officials said the renewed push is designed to close gaps in healthcare access, reduce stigma, and provide tailored information that meets the needs of the disability community. The campaign will run across communities and disability groups in the state, using accessible formats and outreach methods.
Health authorities noted that misinformation and discrimination have often made it harder for PWDs to seek testing, treatment, and support. By bringing services and education directly to them, the state aims to improve early detection and encourage more people to access care without fear of judgment.

The initiative also focuses on training health workers and community advocates to communicate in ways that are inclusive and sensitive. Officials stressed that protecting the health of PWDs is key to achieving the state’s broader goal of ending HIV as a public health threat.
With Lagos home to one of the largest populations of PWDs in Nigeria, the government said sustained engagement and partnerships with disability groups will be central to the campaign’s success.
