Three security personnel were killed in the early hours of Monday when gunmen attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Plateau State.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident in an update issued Tuesday in Jos. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the attack targeted operatives on duty at the premier policy training institute for senior public officials.
“Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident,” the statement read. The command described the attack as a serious security breach at the facility.
Following the assault, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, deployed additional security reinforcements and intensified patrols around NIPSS and the surrounding area. Police said calm has since returned and normal activities have resumed at the institute.
The command assured residents that the situation is under control. It urged the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses while investigations are ongoing.
NIPSS Kuru trains top government officials and policymakers, and the attack marks one of the most serious security incidents at the institute in recent years. Police said further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.
