The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Soliu Mujeeb, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of a 60-year-old electrician, Mr. Olarewaju Afolabi.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Mohammed, disclosed the development during a press briefing held on Sunday at the command headquarters in Ilorin.
According to the commandant, the victim left his residence on June 7, 2026, to inspect an electrical installation project but failed to return home, prompting concern among family members and associates.
The matter was reported to the NSCDC Tracking Unit on June 11 after all attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful.
Investigations revealed that shortly after Afolabi’s disappearance, his family began receiving ransom demands amounting to ₦2 million from his mobile phone. The family was later instructed to pay ₦120,000, which they complied with in hopes of securing his release.
Following intelligence-led investigations, including digital tracking and financial transaction analysis, operatives traced the suspect and arrested him.

During interrogation, Mujeeb reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he had previously worked with the deceased as an assistant in electrical installation services.
The suspect allegedly told investigators that a disagreement between them led to a personal grudge.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect lured Afolabi to an uncompleted building in the Kangile area of Kulende, Ilorin, under the pretext of inspecting a new electrical project.
He allegedly attacked and killed the victim before taking possession of his mobile phone and SIM card, which were later used to demand ransom from the victim’s family.
The suspect subsequently led investigators to the crime scene, where a shallow grave believed to contain the victim’s remains was discovered. Authorities also recovered the victim’s mobile phone and SIM card from the suspect.
The NSCDC stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further prosecution.
Commandant Mohammed reassured residents of Kwara State of the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property while urging the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies.
