Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully foiled a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national, arresting two suspects allegedly involved in a ₦50 million ransom scheme.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence indicating an imminent abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers of the Obalende Division acted swiftly on the intelligence report.
Surveillance and operational teams were immediately deployed to the identified location, where the suspects were intercepted and arrested before the plan could be executed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had conspired to abduct the foreign national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million.
One of the suspects, Onwuemena, was reportedly employed as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company and allegedly used his position to facilitate the kidnapping plot.
Further findings indicate that the suspects were working with an accomplice who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the wider criminal network.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
