
A devastating rainstorm has claimed the lives of a grandmother and her four-year-old granddaughter in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The victims, identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, lost their lives after a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds swept through the community on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction.
Confirming the incident, the Bauchi State Police Command said the severe weather disaster struck Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village, resulting in the tragic deaths and extensive damage to property.

Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, stated that several houses were destroyed, while livestock and valuables worth millions of naira were also lost during the storm.
Following the disaster, officers from the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters visited the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and help maintain law and order.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and residents of Kirfi Local Government Area. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the victims and urged residents to remain cautious during the rainy season.
The police command also assured the public of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to support emergency response efforts and protect lives and property across the state.
The tragic incident highlights the growing dangers associated with extreme weather conditions as the rainy season intensifies across parts of the country.
