
The Zamfara State Police Command, working with other security agencies, has repelled a bandit attack after a two-hour gunfight along Gadar Manya in Anka Local Government Area.
The confrontation occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, when a joint security team encountered armed bandits attempting to cross the highway. The team included operatives from the VCRU, ZFS, Mobile Police Force, and Civil Security Volunteers, who were on an anti-banditry patrol in the area.
According to the police spokesperson, the bandits opened fire immediately upon sighting the security team, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire that lasted about two hours. The operatives responded effectively, forcing the criminals to retreat into the bush with suspected gunshot wounds.

Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing bandits were recovered at the scene. The command said this brings the total number of motorcycles recovered during recent anti-banditry operations in the state to twelve.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to provide useful information to support ongoing security operations.
The incident comes a day after police reported the abduction of 39 residents in Magamin Diddi, Maradun Local Government Area, during a community dialogue with the parents of a suspected bandit leader.
