The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that one of the pupils abducted during a recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area died while in captivity, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said no security agency involved in the ongoing rescue operation had confirmed the death of any of the abducted children.
According to the police, the report was fabricated and intended to create fear, panic, and anxiety among residents while undermining efforts to secure the release of the victims.
The command stressed that neither the police nor any other recognised security agency participating in the rescue mission had received information indicating that any of the abducted pupils had died.
It expressed concern over the spread of unverified reports, warning that misinformation could negatively affect ongoing security operations and cause additional distress to the families of the kidnapped children.
The police also accused those behind the report of using speculation and emotional narratives to manipulate public opinion and heighten public anxiety during a sensitive period.

Authorities reiterated that security operatives remain committed to rescuing the abducted pupils and are continuing their operations with professionalism and discretion.
The command further cautioned bloggers, social media users, content creators, and media organisations against publishing or amplifying unverified security-related information, noting that such actions could hinder rescue efforts and public safety initiatives.
Residents were advised to disregard the report and rely only on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted children and pledged to keep the public informed of verified developments as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
