
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have successfully rescued three missing children and arrested two suspected child traffickers in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.
The rescue operation, which took place on Wednesday along Ikot Ekpaw Village, was triggered by a distress call from a concerned resident who reported the suspected abduction.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, officers swiftly mobilised to the area and strategically cordoned off all entry and exit routes to prevent the suspects from escaping.
During the coordinated operation, the police intercepted a mini bus conveying the victims. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the three missing children onboard.
The children were rescued unharmed, while two suspects were arrested at the scene.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Johnny, 39, from Ikot Itokpo Village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, and Ifiok Umoh, 28, from Ikot Ikpene Village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

“The operatives acted promptly on credible information. All strategic routes were secured, leading to the successful interception of the vehicle conveying the victims,” the statement noted.
The police further confirmed that the rescued children have since been reunited with their families.
Commending the officers for their swift response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, ordered a discreet investigation to uncover and apprehend other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating child trafficking, abduction, and other criminal activities across the state.
Authorities have assured residents of continued vigilance and urged the public to promptly report suspicious activities to aid security efforts.
