The Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has launched a full-scale manhunt following an armed attack on the NIS Passport Office in Ogbomoso.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when about five armed assailants invaded the facility by scaling the rear perimeter fence bordering a bushy area.
The attackers reportedly assaulted two immigration officers who were on night duty using sticks and other dangerous weapons.
During the attack, the suspects made away with a G3 service rifle, ammunition, a mobile phone, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery before fleeing through the same route.
The injured officers have since received medical attention and are said to be in stable condition.
Following a distress call from the officer in charge of the passport office, police operatives, including surveillance and monitoring units, were swiftly deployed to the scene to assess the situation and begin investigations.
The police command disclosed that tactical teams have intensified search operations in surrounding areas, including nearby bushes and suspected escape routes, in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen items.
