Suspected bandits have abducted six students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, after raiding their off-campus residence on Tuesday night. One student managed to escape during the attack.
The Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the incident and said security agencies have launched operations to secure the safe return of the victims. According to him, rescue efforts are ongoing to ensure the students are freed unharmed.
A student of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, told reporters that the attackers took away six students, three males and three females, after one victim escaped in the chaos. The attack occurred at a residence on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town.

The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the abduction on Wednesday. Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar said the students were taken after one of them stepped outside at night and left the door open, giving the attackers access. He added that the polytechnic itself remains secure with adequate security deployment.
Abubakar stated that operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, in collaboration with troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, have begun a coordinated rescue operation. He assured that efforts have been intensified to locate and free the captives.
The incident has renewed concern over insecurity in Kaura Namoda. The Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda group cited recent abductions in the area, including two senior lecturers held for over two months and three residents kidnapped near a military base. The group linked the attacks to a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Bello Dansadiya, and questioned the effectiveness of current security operations.
