
The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a young man by suspected gunmen in Aba.
Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the attack occurred on May 24, 2026, at about 12:35 p.m. near Opobo Junction in the Ehere area of Aba.
According to her, officers attached to the Eastern Ngwa Police Division received intelligence that an unidentified man had been shot dead by unknown assailants. A patrol team from the Ohuru Division was immediately dispatched to the scene.

She explained that the victim was found lying in a pool of blood in front of a church after reportedly being chased by the attackers.
Preliminary investigations showed that the assailants pursued the deceased as he ran toward the church before shooting him dead.
The corpse has since been recovered and deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while investigations continue to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
