
A police officer attached to an escort team has been burnt to death in a fatal road crash at the Iyana Obafe axis of the Sagamu–Siun–Kabape–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday inbound Siun near the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate corridor, involved a bullion van belonging to Bemil, two Toyota Hilux escort vehicles, and a silo truck with registration number KRD 945 YL.
According to the spokesperson of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, four persons were involved in the crash.
Three occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries, while one officer was burnt to death at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused when the truck driver allegedly drove against traffic, colliding with one of the escort vehicles in the convoy.

The impact triggered a fire that led to the death of the police officer attached to the escort detail.
Emergency responders from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Amotekun Corps arrived at the scene for rescue operations and traffic control.
The injured victims were evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu by good Samaritans, while the remains of the deceased officer were deposited at the Owode-Egba General Hospital morgue.
Authorities have urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid dangerous driving practices, especially on busy highways, to prevent further loss of lives.
