Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie is facing heavy criticism online after being unveiled as a brand ambassador for Girls Tag, a menstrual care brand selling an all-in-one period kit for N25,000.
The brand, launched recently, is marketed as a period care pack for girls aged nine and above. Mercy Johnson and her daughter, Purity Okojie, were announced as ambassadors, with actress Regina Daniels also joining shortly after.
The announcement quickly sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling the price unrealistic and insensitive. Critics argued that millions of women and girls in the country struggle to afford basic sanitary products and often resort to unsafe alternatives or miss school during their periods.

Social media users accused the brand of targeting only the wealthy and ignoring the economic reality of most Nigerian households. Comments described the pricing as out of touch, with some questioning why a basic necessity like menstrual pads should be sold at a premium rate. Others defended the brand as a business decision, saying not every product is meant for the mass market.
Despite the backlash, the company has not responded publicly to the criticism. The controversy has reignited conversations about menstrual health, affordability, and access to sanitary products in Nigeria.
