Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of an interstate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate accused of terrorising communities along the Enugu-Benue border.
The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Hassan and 26-year-old Aminu Usman, were apprehended by officers attached to the Udenu Police Division in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects are natives of Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Ndukwe disclosed that the suspects were arrested on May 14, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m. in Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor, located in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, three suspected stolen motorcycles, a mobile phone, suspected charms, an ATM card, a bunch of keys, and N4,700 in cash.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly part of a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping and motorcycle-snatching operations across border communities in Enugu and Benue states.
He added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the gang, noting that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime in the state.
He commended the police operatives and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group for the successful operation and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies.
