Tragedy has struck in Oyo State as one of the teachers abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area has been killed by suspected bandits.
The victim, identified as Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly murdered in captivity, with a disturbing video allegedly released by the attackers surfacing online on Sunday.
The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the victim restrained and forced to speak before being killed, sparking widespread outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in the region.
Oyedokun was among several staff members abducted during an attack on the school on Friday, May 15, when gunmen invaded the premises and took away the principal, teachers, and some students.
The Oyo State Government has condemned the killing and extended condolences to the victim’s family. In a statement, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims.
According to the government, both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies are being deployed to secure the release of those still in captivity.
Authorities also confirmed that at least six suspects linked to the abduction have been arrested, with additional persons of interest currently in custody.
The rescue operation has not been without casualties. Some members of the joint security team, including soldiers, Amotekun operatives, and local vigilantes, reportedly lost their lives after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the abductors.

However, officials noted that injured personnel are responding to treatment, with the state pledging full support for their recovery.
The killing has thrown the local community into mourning and heightened fears about the safety of those still held captive.
Families of the victims, residents, and community leaders are calling on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and prevent further loss of life.
This incident adds to growing concerns about increasing insecurity in Oyo State and across Nigeria, particularly following recent cases of kidnappings and violent attacks in the region.
The government has appealed for calm and patience, assuring that every possible measure is being taken to bring the remaining victims home safely.
