
The Bauchi State Government has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Permanent Secretary for Special Services in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam, during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Jalam reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday after suffering a brief illness while participating in this year’s Hajj exercise alongside other pilgrims from Bauchi State.
The late official, who held the traditional title of Turakin Dawakin Misau, was described as a committed and hardworking public servant whose contributions to the state would not be forgotten.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed, Mukhtar Gidado, the Bauchi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing his death as a painful loss to the state and the wider community.
According to the statement, Jalam played vital roles in coordinating previous Hajj operations and carried out several important government assignments during his years of service.
The government noted that his dedication, humility, and loyalty earned him respect among colleagues, associates, and members of the public.
Funeral prayers for the deceased were held on Sunday after the Zuhr prayer at the Holy Mosque of the Ka’aba in Makkah.
Governor Bala Mohammed extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Civil Service, the Misau and Dambam Emirate Councils, as well as friends and associates of the late permanent secretary.
The governor also prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
