
Troops of the 1 Brigade Quick Response Force have successfully repelled a terrorist attack in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition in the process.
The incident occurred around 4:00 pm on May 16, 2026, following reports of an attack on Illela village. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops mobilized to the scene and engaged the armed assailants in a gun battle.
Security sources disclosed that upon arrival, the troops made immediate contact with the attackers, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, several of the terrorists were neutralized, while others fled the area under pressure.

Items recovered from the scene include a general-purpose machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, an extra magazine, 211 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
However, the operation was not without setbacks, as the tyres of a CSK armoured personnel carrier deployed during the mission were damaged in the course of the firefight.
Security authorities have confirmed that troops have intensified patrol operations in the area, with efforts ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers and prevent further threats to surrounding communities.
