
The Delta State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on cultism and illegal arms possession, leading to the arrest of 11 suspected cultists and the recovery of firearms and dangerous weapons across multiple operations.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made during intelligence-driven operations carried out by different tactical units of the command.
On May 14, 2026, operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team responded to a distress call and stormed a suspected cultist hideout located at Eagle Square along Okpanam Road in Asaba.
The location was reportedly being used for cult-related activities. During the raid, nine suspects seven males and two females were apprehended.
Recovered items included a Beretta pistol, a battle axe, and a cutlass.
In a separate operation on the same day, officers of the Safer Highway Patrol Team intercepted a Lexus Jeep along the Ughelli–Patani Road during a routine stop-and-search exercise.

The vehicle, driven by a suspect identified as Felix Ike, was found to contain an English-made pump-action gun and 40 rounds of live cartridges. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Further reinforcing the crackdown, operatives of the Anti-Cult Unit arrested a 28-year-old suspect, Christopher Ogidigbo, in Ogharaefe Town, Ethiope West Local Government Area, on May 15. He is alleged to be a key figure in the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
A locally made revolver pistol was recovered from him during the operation.
Commending the officers for their swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism, illegal firearms possession, and other violent crimes across the state.
The police assured residents of continued efforts to enhance public safety and urged citizens to provide timely information to support ongoing security operations.
