Police in Abia State have arrested a man for allegedly stoning his 8-year-old daughter to death during a domestic dispute in Obiohuru.
Operatives of the Akwete Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Mr. Chidi Stanley after the incident, which occurred during a fight between Stanley and his sister, Mrs. Chinyere Stanley.
According to the Abia State Police Command, Stanley threw a stone at his sister, but it struck his daughter, Miss Chiamaka Stanley. The child was later confirmed dead at a hospital by a medical doctor.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka said the family concealed the incident and failed to report it. They had begun preparing for a secret burial until officers, acting on intelligence, arrived at the scene.

When police demanded access to the child’s body and invited the family to the station, they were met with resistance from the family and some youths of the community, creating a tense situation.
Officers documented the scene, including an already-dug grave, and withdrew to prevent further escalation. The case and suspect were later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for investigation.
DSP Chinaka said agitated youths later attempted to attack officers and the police station despite appeals for calm, forcing officers to defend themselves and protect police property.
