A young man, Abubakar Haruna, has died in Potiskum, Yobe State, after being struck during a reckless motorcycle procession at a bride conveyance celebration. The accident occurred on Friday and has sparked fresh concerns over dangerous riding by youths during social events in the community.
Eyewitnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria that a group of young men escorting a bride rode through a busy part of town at high speed, performing risky manoeuvres with little regard for pedestrians and other road users.
Abubakar’s brother, Muhammad Haruna, said the deceased was standing by the roadside when one of the riders hit him violently on the head. The impact caused Abubakar to lose balance and fall into a nearby drainage channel. He died from his injuries before help could reach him.
