
The management of Gombe State University has opened an investigation after a day-old baby was discovered inside one of the institution’s female hostels on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The incident, which has drawn concern across the campus community, was confirmed in an official statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Napthali Hadu.
He described the development as unfortunate and said it reflects a serious breach of the institution’s rules and student conduct guidelines.
According to the university, immediate steps have been taken to uncover how the newborn came to be in the hostel and to identify those responsible.

The baby, a newborn boy, was promptly moved to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where medical personnel are currently providing care and monitoring his condition.
