
The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested two men suspected of running a fake job recruitment scheme in Makurdi.
The suspects, Okpara Michael Abah, 42, and Ade John Ogbu, 37, were picked up on April 30, 2026, around 4:05 p.m. during a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC EA Michael, the suspects were allegedly conducting a fake data capturing exercise for unsuspecting job seekers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abah collected a total of ₦1,178,500 from several applicants under the pretense of securing employment for them.

Investigators also found that an additional ₦116,500 was collected from applicants for uniforms and other related items. Items recovered from the suspects included copies of application forms, passport photographs, and a still camera.
Speaking during the parade of the suspects, Commandant Bitrus Alice Larai warned the public to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment schemes. She said the Federal Ministry of Interior follows established procedures for job placement and advised applicants to verify recruitment information through official government channels before making any payments or submitting personal details.
The command said the suspects would be handed over for prosecution once investigations are concluded.
