At least 50 fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) have been killed following a coordinated attack on a Nigerian military base in Yobe State, with two soldiers confirmed dead in the confrontation.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when insurgents launched a multi-directional assault on the Headquarters of the 27 Brigade, Buni Gari, and a nearby military checkpoint.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, the attackers advanced from several flanks in an attempt to overwhelm troops.
However, the military responded with a combination of ground resistance and air support, successfully repelling the assault.
The Army described the response as swift and decisive, noting that troops demonstrated strong tactical coordination and resilience in the face of the attack.

“Over 50 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while several others fled with injuries. Unfortunately, two brave soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty,” the statement said.
Military authorities further confirmed that the base remained secure throughout the operation, with no breach recorded despite the intensity of the attack.
Follow-up clearance operations have since been launched to track fleeing insurgents and prevent regrouping efforts.
Recovered items from the scene include multiple AK-47 rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, ammunition, and improvised explosive device materials.
While some military equipment sustained minor damage, injured personnel are currently receiving treatment.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgent groups and ensuring the safety of communities across the North-East region.
