
The body of a kidnapped community leader has been recovered in Plateau State, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing.
Troops of Sector 4 under Operation Enduring Peace discovered the decomposing body of Alhaji Lawal Abubakar Wakili, the community leader of Kekong, during a search operation in Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Security sources said the troops worked with residents to comb through Kurra, Jokko Hills, and nearby bush areas before locating the body.
Wakili had earlier been abducted in Gashish, triggering a coordinated search by security forces and members of the community.

Following the discovery, tension rose in parts of the area as some residents demanded the release of suspects who had been arrested earlier. Troops intervened and calmed the situation after assuring residents that due process would be followed.
In a related development, a 67-year-old man, Chiroma Bello Abdulkarim from Ningon village in the same district, was arrested over alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing. He is currently in custody undergoing investigation alongside other suspects linked to the case.
Authorities said calm has since been restored in the area while efforts continue to track down other individuals believed to be connected to the crime.
Investigations are also ongoing to uncover the full details and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
