Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected ammunition courier along the Obajana–Lokoja Road in Kogi State after discovering 500 rounds of bullets concealed inside a bag of maize.
The suspect, identified as Yahaya Umar, was picked up by soldiers of the 12 Brigade following intelligence on an arms trafficking network operating in the North-Central region. According to military sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition was carefully hidden in the maize to evade security checks.

Preliminary investigations suggest Umar was acting as a key link in moving weapons and ammunition for terrorist groups in the area. Officials said the consignment was allegedly handed to him in Obajana Forest and was being transported to Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State, for delivery to another suspected terrorist operative.
The Army confirmed that Umar is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as security agencies work to unravel the wider network behind the operation. Troops said efforts are ongoing to track down and dismantle other members of the syndicate.
