
Public Relations Officer Cross River State: ASP Sunday Eitokpha
The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the arrest of two serving police officers who were intercepted with firearms and live ammunition during an ongoing communal crisis in the state.
The incident, which sparked widespread reactions after a viral video surfaced online, occurred on May 5, 2026, in Biase Local Government Area.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the officers were apprehended during a joint stop-and-search operation carried out by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects are active members of the police force attached to the Akwa Ibom State Command. They were reportedly found in possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of their interception.

Following their arrest, the officers were taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar, where a full-scale investigation is currently underway.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State has ordered a comprehensive probe to determine the motive behind the officers’ actions and their possible connection to the communal unrest between the Ugep and Idomi communities.
Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served, emphasizing that no individual will be exempt from the law regardless of rank or affiliation.
Residents have also been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace in the affected areas.
