Human rights organisation Amnesty International has strongly condemned the killing of five people during a violent political attack in Kano, describing the incident as one of the most alarming waves of political violence witnessed in recent years.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Amnesty International revealed that it is investigating allegations linking some prominent politicians and government officials in Kano to the sponsorship of armed political thugs allegedly involved in the attack.
According to the organisation, video footage reviewed by its team showed armed men moving in groups, chasing victims through the streets before cornering and killing them. Other disturbing videos reportedly showed victims lying helplessly in pools of blood after the assault.
Amnesty further alleged that some of the attackers were seen wearing clothing associated with the ruling party while chanting violent slogans during the incident.

The rights group also disclosed that it had received several reports accusing supporters of certain politicians of targeting perceived political opponents with violence and intimidation.
Describing the situation as a dangerous escalation, Amnesty warned that political thuggery in Kano is becoming a serious threat to public safety and democratic participation.
The organisation called on the Federal Government, security agencies, political leaders, and political parties to uphold the rule of law and ensure the protection of lives and property before, during, and after political activities.
Amnesty International stressed that the increasing violence is creating fear among residents and discouraging citizens from freely participating in political processes within the state.
