
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to multiple cases of child abuse, sexual assault, and incest across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects have been fully investigated and are set to be charged in court.
One of the cases involves a 46-year-old man, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, accused of incest.
Reports indicate that he allegedly maintained an unlawful sexual relationship with a victim from the age of 17.
The case was uncovered after the victim tested positive for HIV during a medical examination. The suspect is said to have made a confessional statement.
In a separate incident, a female suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, was arrested for the alleged physical abuse of two children, aged 6 and 4. She reportedly inflicted injuries on them using a wire.
The suspect claimed the children were adopted from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.

The police also reported a case involving the assault of a 16-year-old girl in Ogbunike. The suspect, a 26-year-old security personnel identified as Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, allegedly attacked the victim and forced her into an uncompleted building where the crime occurred. He has also reportedly confessed.
In another case, a 36-year-old barber, Uchenna Muojama, was accused of luring an 11-year-old girl into his shop and assaulting her. Medical reports have been obtained to support prosecution.
Additionally, a 52-year-old suspect, Chukwudi Nwayata, was arrested for allegedly exploiting the mental condition of an 11-year-old girl and assaulting her after luring her to his residence.
Police authorities confirmed that all cases were handled by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), particularly the Gender Unit, which focuses on protecting vulnerable individuals.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, described the incidents as “heinous and unacceptable,” reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding children and ensuring justice is served.
All five suspects are scheduled to be arraigned before a Special Court sitting in Awka on May 6, 2026.
