
Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, is gearing up to welcome elite cyclists from across Africa as it prepares to host the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Para-Track and Track African Championships.
According to the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), the competitions will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja from May 9 to May 17, 2026.
Cycling Federation of Nigeria officials confirmed that the event will feature two major championships held back-to-back.
The 3rd CAC Para-Track Championship is scheduled to run from May 9 to May 11, while the 12th Track African Championships will follow from May 13 to May 17.

Confederation of African Cycling oversees the continental competitions.
CFN Secretary General, Joel Akinluwa, disclosed that several countries have already confirmed participation, including South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Benin Republic, alongside host nation Nigeria.
He noted that national cycling teams have been in training following recent trials held at the Abuja velodrome.
Team sizes announced so far include South Africa with 27 cyclists, Kenya with 21, Algeria also with 21, and Zimbabwe with 5 athletes, while Ghana and Benin Republic are expected to finalize their squad numbers soon.
Nigeria’s official lineup is expected to be released in the coming days.
CFN Technical Director, Bashir Mohammed, explained that Nigeria will field a strong up contingent across categories.
He said 17 cyclists will represent the country in the Para-Track events, while the Track Championships will feature competitors in elite men and women categories, junior divisions, B-Class events, and C1–C5 classifications.
He also commended the National Sports Commission for approving the championship budget, expressing confidence that Abuja will successfully host a smooth and competitive continental event.
With preparations in advanced stages, Abuja is set to once again demonstrate its capacity as a leading sporting hub on the African continent, with the velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome expected to host top-tier cycling action.
