A tragic road accident on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge has claimed the life of one woman and left four others seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday near Iyana-Iworo, involved a head-on collision between two fully loaded Toyota Sienna commercial buses.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), emergency responders were alerted at about 7:26 a.m., with the agency’s Tiger Squad arriving at the scene shortly after to carry out rescue operations.
The injured victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby trauma centre, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Preliminary findings indicate that reckless driving by one of the bus drivers led to the collision. Authorities noted that the crash could have been avoided if proper traffic regulations had been followed.
LASEMA officials, alongside the police and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), worked together to manage traffic, secure the accident scene, and clear the wreckage to restore normal movement on the bridge.
Reacting to the incident, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of responsible driving, warning motorists against speeding, dangerous overtaking, and poor lane discipline.
He urged road users to exercise caution at all times and cooperate with traffic officials to prevent avoidable tragedies on major highways.
