Security operatives have busted a cult initiation ceremony in a forest in Eleme Local Government Area, arresting 13 suspected members during the operation.
The raid was carried out in the early hours of Sunday in a forest located between Alode and Onne, where dozens of young men had reportedly gathered for the initiation exercise.
An eyewitness, identified as Lene, told the News Agency of Nigeria that about 100 individuals were present at the scene before security personnel stormed the area.
According to him, many of the suspects fled into the forest upon sighting the operatives, while 13 others were apprehended on the spot.
“The moment they noticed the police approaching, most of them ran deeper into the forest, but some were captured,” he said.
