Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has explained why he rejected Jose Mourinho’s offer to stay at Chelsea or go on loan in England, opting instead for a permanent move to Italy.
Speaking to StanSport, Salah described his relationship with the Portuguese manager as good and called him “one of the best coaches I have had.”
“I remember I had a conversation with Jose, and he’s a lovely guy. I love him,” Salah said. “He told me, ‘I want you to stay or just go somewhere on loan, then come back, but in the UK because I want you.”

Salah said he turned down the request. “I said no. I want to see myself away now. There’s too much pressure on me. I want to go to Italy. I want to play there, and I don’t want to go on loan and come back to a club.”
The Egyptian made his Premier League debut under Mourinho at Chelsea in 2014 but struggled for regular minutes. He joined Fiorentina on loan before moving to AS Roma for the 2015/16 season.
Salah stressed there is no rift with Mourinho. “Our relationship is good now. I don’t want people to think that I’m hating him or something. No, I love him.”
