A member of the Nigeria Forest Security Services (NFSS), Zakari Usman, is currently in the custody of the Nigerian Army over allegations of issuing a fake threat alert letter claiming an imminent bandit attack on Venra Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to security sources, the suspect allegedly delivered an anonymous letter to the community on Monday, April 27, 2026, warning residents of a planned attack and kidnapping of five persons.
The alert reportedly triggered panic among locals before investigations began.
However, findings by security operatives on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, reportedly traced the source of the letter back to Usman, also known as “Minister,” a native of Venra Village and a member of the NFSS.
Preliminary investigations further suggest that the suspect may have authored and circulated the letter himself in a calculated move to create fear within the community.

Authorities believe the act was intended to pressure residents into paying for a supposed security contract under the guise of protection from a non-existent threat.
Security officials also indicated that there is no record of any bandit attack in the community, as Venra remains calm at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, has engaged community leaders alongside security agencies to ease tensions and reassure residents of their safety.
The suspect remains in military custody as investigations continue to determine his motive, possible accomplices, and the full extent of the incident.
