Nigerian actress and producer Mary Njoku has said that a “small mindset” among industry players is a major factor limiting the growth and global competitiveness of Nigerian industries.
Taking to her Instagram page, the founder of ROK TV lamented that sectors with the potential to thrive internationally are instead caught up in unhealthy local competition.
According to her, many stakeholders are more focused on competing against one another within the country rather than positioning themselves to rival global counterparts.
She described the situation as a “Nigeria versus Nigeria” mentality, stressing that the focus should be on “Nigeria versus the world.”
Njoku further criticised the tendency of individuals and organisations to fight for dominance within a limited space, rather than collaborating to expand opportunities for everyone.
She noted that this mindset often results in people striving to become “local champions” instead of building structures that can compete on a larger scale.

She emphasised that achieving meaningful growth requires a deliberate shift in perspective, urging industry players to prioritise excellence and teamwork.
According to her, collaboration on bigger projects would not only drive innovation but also enhance the global relevance of Nigerian industries.
The actress also pointed out that the real challenge is not the lack of opportunities, but the mindset of those who choose to limit growth for personal gain.
She warned that shrinking opportunities to maintain individual success ultimately hinders collective progress.
Njoku concluded by calling on stakeholders to embrace a broader vision, work together, and focus on building sustainable success that goes beyond local recognition.
