Police in Bangkok have arrested a Nigerian man identified as Nwaiwu Ifeanyi Placid, 46, over his alleged involvement in a cocaine trafficking network operating within the city’s nightlife areas.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the Metropolitan Police Bureau on Saturday night during a targeted operation in the Silom area.
Security agents said the suspect was tracked and monitored for some time before being apprehended near Silom Soi 1.
Authorities revealed that police infiltrated the group’s communication channels, including chat platforms used by members of the syndicate, which helped them monitor conversations and trace movements.
Officers also conducted surveillance in key nightlife locations, posing as civilians to avoid detection. This intelligence-led operation eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.

During the arrest, the suspect reportedly resisted officers but was quickly subdued. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of about 27 grammes of cocaine.
Police said the operation also led to the arrest of three other suspects, including a Swiss national and two Thai citizens, all believed to be linked to the same drug network.
Further investigations revealed that the total items seized included about 30 grammes of cocaine, a vehicle, cash running into 1.5 million baht, foreign currency, and jewellery valued at hundreds of thousands of baht.
Authorities linked the arrests to earlier crackdowns on the same syndicate, where several suspects were previously detained and assets worth millions of baht confiscated.
Officials added that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the drug trafficking network.
