
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two cousins, Yahaya Zubairu (20) and Babangida Muhammad (20), in connection with the kidnapping and death of nine-year-old Barhama Abubakar.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the suspects, who live in the same compound as the victim, abducted Barhama on March 21, 2026, and demanded a ransom of ₦1,000,000.
Police later recovered the boy’s decomposed body, and a medical examination confirmed his death.
Habib said the suspects confessed, explaining that they targeted the boy’s father, believing he was wealthy.

“Babangida lured the victim by asking him to buy biscuits and deliver them to a designated primary school, where they picked him up and took him to the scene of the crime,” Habib stated.
The suspects allegedly tied the boy’s neck and legs, which led to his death. The Police Commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged parents and guardians to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
The case is now under further investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Authorities also appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of any other individuals involved in similar crimes.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about child safety and security, with the Bauchi State Police reiterating its commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring justice for victims.
