Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following two separate fire incidents that ravaged residential buildings in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The first fire occurred at No. 16, Majekobaje Community, Idi Osan, along Iwo Expressway, where a building housing three-bedroom flats was engulfed in flames.
Residents were thrown into panic as thick smoke spread across the area while efforts were made to salvage belongings.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters responded promptly and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
He revealed that the blaze was caused by firewood that was not properly extinguished after use. The residual heat ignited nearby combustible materials, leading to the outbreak. No lives were lost in the incident.

In a similar development, another fire outbreak was reported at 32, Oshodi Street, Olorunsogo area behind Scout Camp in Felele, also within Ibadan. The fire affected the kitchen section of the building.
Preliminary findings suggest that the second incident may have been triggered by unattended cooking or heat buildup in the kitchen, though investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution when handling fire, particularly in domestic settings, warning that negligence remains a major cause of such preventable disasters.
