
In a violent encounter on Thursday, troops of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army engaged unknown gunmen in Obubra Local Government Area, Cross River State, leaving four attackers dead and one soldier injured.
The confrontation occurred as soldiers were returning from Ochon and Alesi communities when unidentified armed men launched a coordinated ambush.
The initial attack quickly escalated into a fierce gun battle.
Lt. Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 13 Brigade, confirmed the incident, explaining that reinforcements from the 245 Battalion, including armored and tactical support vehicles, were immediately deployed to assist the troops.

The swift response allowed soldiers to repel the attackers and regain control of the area.
“During the engagement, troops neutralized four armed attackers while several others escaped,” Sokoya stated.
One soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated to Jennifer Hospital, Ochon, where he is receiving treatment.
The Army has commenced cordon-and-search operations in communities suspected of harboring the fleeing gunmen, aiming to prevent further security breaches.
Brig.-Gen. Patrick Alimikhena, Commander of 13 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, reassuring residents of Cross River State of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining peace.
