A former Nigerian Army Major General, Umaru Mohammed, is taking his case to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld his conviction for misappropriating funds belonging to Nigerian Army Properties Limited.
Mohammed was initially convicted on October 10, 2023, by a Special Court Martial at the Army Headquarters. He was found guilty of stealing and criminally misappropriating company funds, dismissed from the Army, sentenced to prison, and ordered to refund $2,099,700 and N1,650,172,000.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, Mohammed appealed to the Court of Appeal on February 12, 2025, arguing that the evidence against him was insufficient and unreliable.

However, the three-member appellate panel Justices Abba Bello Mohammed, Okon Efreti Abang, and Eberechi Suzzette Nyeson-Wike dismissed his appeal.
The court ruled that the Special Court Martial had acted within its jurisdiction and that the evidence clearly supported the conviction.
Only two counts of forgery were overturned due to jurisdictional limits.
Mohammed described his trial as unfair and stated that he has now filed an appeal at the Supreme Court to overturn parts of the judgments.
He also questioned the Nigerian Army’s attempts to enforce certain orders linked to his Bank Verification Number, claiming no such directives were issued by the court martial.
